The purpose was to identify starting materials by resistance to biotic factors and a set of valuable traits. Methods: phytopathological, entomological, mycological, breeding-genetic, statistical. Theoretical and practical results. Sources of resistance of winter and spring wheat, spring barley, pea, and soybean to common diseases and pests were identified. Donors of resistance of winter wheat and pea were selected. A catalog of starting materials for breeding, pea and bread wheat lines with combining resistance to pathogens with valuable economic traits was developed. A methodology for laboratory assessment of resistance was developed. A working collection of spring barley was built up. Scientific novelty. For the first time, sources of resistance of cereals and grain legumes to major diseases and pests in the northeastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine were established and scientifically justified, and their potential for breeding was determined. The developed methodological approaches ensured the creation of new lines and working collections combining high resistance and valuable economic traits. Implementation efficiency. The developed methodological approaches, the created lines and working collections significantly accelerate the breeding process, reducing the time for assessing resistance of field crops to biotic factors. They increase the efficiency of creating new varieties and hybrids that combine high resistance with high productivity and yield, which significantly improves agricultural production efficiency.
