Crop losses due to heat and drought can be exacerbated by numerous viral and fungal diseases, because the environment significantly affects plants, pathogens and their vectors. Climate change affects the occurrence, prevalence, and harmfulness of plant viruses and fungi and affects the further coevolution of plants and their pathogens, leading to changes in the species composition of phytopathogens in a certain region, the appearance of differences in the properties of viral isolates, and the emergence of epiphytotia. The project is aimed at studying the species composition of plant pathogens of fungal and viral etiology on food crops that are important for food security and health of the population of Ukraine, their harmfulness, pathways and degree of prevalence on domestic and foreign varieties under climate change conditions, as well as screening varieties, lines and hybrids that are tolerant to drought and resistant to phytopathogens, based on the determination of physiological and biochemical indicators. The aim of the project is to study the impact of drought and hyperthermia on phytopathogens of fungal and viral etiology, their variability in crops important for food security and health of the population of Ukraine, and to study physiological and biochemical indicators that participate in protective reactions of plants to the action of phytopathogens, abiotic stressors for selection of varieties with complex resistance to viruses, fungi and drought.
