Object of the research - the formation of the language competence in students. Aim of the study - the linguistic (Ukrainian- and foreign-language) competence which is an important component of the physician's personality. The results of treatment are essentially depended on the art of native communication. That is why the doctor should know the culture of the native language: that is in accordance with the terms and aims of communication be able to choose stylistic means and methods, reflecting a psycho-cultural context. That is the core on which professional knowledge and skills of a specialist are set. Acquisition of the foreign-language competence provides the specialist with new knowledge from various sources, direct communication with colleagues from different countries, integration into the world academic and scientific environment in conditions of modern information technologies. The successful formation of students' language competence is an important factor of democratization and humanization of education. The meaning of the language competence is clarified in the scientific research; new trends and projects of native and foreign languages studies in higher educational institutions are analyzed and observed; the experience of the leading European countries concerning a language component in the contents of education is compared and generalized; means of modeling and methods of introduction of professionally directed communication situations for the abilities' formation of speech communication are elaborated. Methods: analytical, comparative, audiovisual; determination, analogy, synthesis and historicism.
