Acoustic, piezooptic, elastic and acoustooptic properties of chalcogenide crystals for highly efficient acoustooptic control of optical radiation were investigated. It was shown that the efficiency of acoustooptical interaction and, consequently, the acoustooptical quality coefficient of Tl3AsS4 crystals can reach extremely high values of ~ 3000x10-15c3 / kg in the case of anisotropic acoustooptic interaction with slow transverse acoustic wave that makes these crystals attractive for use in acoustooptic devices for infrared spectrum range.
