The elaborated Mab panels applied in diagnosing 85 acute leukemia cases made it possible to delineate 8 AML variants as well as ALL subvariants taking into account their specific expression patterns. Moreover, the following rare cases of the acute leukemias were diagnosed: two cases of acute leukemia of ambiguous origin with immunophenotype similar to that of the hematopoietic stem cells (HLA-DR+/-CD34+CD38+/-), one AML with minimal differentiation features, two cases of acute leukemia with coexpression of antigens characteristic of oligolineage myeloid progenitor cells and B-cell progenitors (CD33+ / -CD13- / + CD117- / +cyCD22- / +CD19+). The latter proves the existence of multipotent hematopoietic progenitor cells common for B cells and myeloid cells. The delineation of the forms, variants and subvariants of the acute leukemias is of high importance for providing the specific therapeutic regimens.
