The subject of the research is the theoretical and methodological foundations of forming intercultural communicative competence of university students. The purpose of the research is substantiation and development of theoretical and methodological foundations of forming intercultural communicative competence of university students in the context of European demands. According to the purpose of the research the following methods have been used: theoretical: critical analysis of home school and foreign psychological, pedagogical, linguistic and methodological sources in the field of research, curricula; comparative analysis and methodological interpretation of the results of the experiment; empirical: interviewing teachers and students in order to develop appropriate methods (techniques); testing students in order to determine the level of their communicative competence; scientific observation of the organization of educational process; experimental teaching; qualitative and quantitative analysis of experimental data; methods of mathematical statistics for processing the results of the experiment. Theoretical and practical results, their novelty: for the first time the following methods have been theoretically substantiated, developed and experimentally verified: teaching future international economics specialists professionally oriented English listening within independent work; building future programmers' foreign language professionally oriented communicative strategies on the basis of socio-cognitive approach with application of the Internet; forming English professionally oriented competence in oral communication of prospective pediatricians; forming English lexical competence of prospective marketers by means of case-technology; forming prospective economists' lexical and grammatical competence in speaking within independent work; forming future teachers' lexical competence in teaching English after German; forming future English language teachers' linguosociocultural copmpetence in the process of reading fiction; forming future German language teachers' lexical competence on the basis authentic works of fiction; forming future German philologists' competence in reading publicistic texts. The research results have been implemented into the educational process in 15 higher educational institutions of Ukraine.
