Object of research - is the ways and means of shaping national traditions in the object-spatial environment of people's dwellings (on the example of Eastern Ukraine). The purpose of the work is the analysis of modern problems of urban planning and urban planning, the development of a system model for creating an architectural environment and a socio-cultural environment of a modern city. The prerequisites are revealed, on the basis of which it is necessary to preserve and renew the national heritage of the folk architecture of Eastern Ukraine. It was found that the existing norms, (in particular DBN D.2.5.6 - 2001 "Norms of restoration and reconstruction of coatings and roofs" compilation and 6),do not contribute to recreate the people's home; therefore, attempts have been made to develop some recommendations for changing existing standards. A system model has been developed for creating the architectural and socio-cultural environment of a modern city, which can be used in strategic planning, in creating urban planning documentation and in predicting the future development of a city. It was found out that it is necessary to preserve and renew people's dwellings using traditional methods of design, construction, and the form of life.It is necessary to develop manuals and recommendations for the builders of recreated folk dwellings, professionally investigate folk traditions in order to use them in production and educational activities.
