 The object is the educational process in general secondary and out-of-school education institutions. Subject - the content, forms and methods of formation of ecological competence of schoolchildren. The essence of the study is to substantiate and develop modern content and create a set of methods for forming environmental competence of students, which will help harmonize relations with nature, regulate personal consumption, reduce anthropogenic pressure on the environment and in general - improve its condition. Such results are relevant in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals, and can be considered as contextual with the main trends of European environmental education. Key words: ecological education, ecological values, ecological competence, education of sustainable development.
