Relaxing action of the Fraction 4 (containing mainly vomilenine, methylajmalicine, ajmalicine, and raufloridine; total alkaloid content of 65.0%) and Fraction 5 (containing mainly acetylajmaline; total alkaloid content of 47.4%) of alkaloid extracts from Rauvolfia serpentine tissue culture was found in vitro, however the changes in mean blood pressure did not exceed 20%. The Fractions 4 and 5 had a significant antiarrhythmic effect in the model of adrenaline-induced arrhythmias. The antiarrhythmic activity of Fraction 5 was confirmed in the model of ischemic and reperfusion arrhythmias.
