The goal of the research consists in formulating of a comprehensive and historically substantiated vision of political practices and social models aimed at overcoming (or second obtaining actuality) the totalitarian legacy of the USSR in the countries of the post-Soviet space, identifying basic problems of the socio-political transformation of the former Soviet Republics and adapting their successful experience for the needs of Ukraine.

The political practices and social models of the newly independent states, aimed at overcoming (or reactualization) the totalitarian legacy of the USSR, are analyzed, and the main problems of the socio-political transformation of the former Soviet republics are identified. The influence of external (international) factors of the post-totalitarian transformation of social and political structures in the post-Soviet space is studied, the key determinants of the success of the processes of political democratization, economic liberalization and social progress in some former republics of the USSR are explored. The reasons for the formation of authoritarian and autocratic regimes in most countries of the post-Soviet space are described. The optimal strategy of actions in the conditions of the transformation of the post-Soviet space is defined. Practical recommendations to state authorities regarding the adaptation of the foreign experience in overcoming the totalitarian legacy of the USSR to the needs of Ukraine are provided.
