The influence of external (international) factors of the post-totalitarian transformation of social and political structures in the post-Soviet space is studied, the key determinants of the success of the processes of political democratization, economic liberalization and social progress in some former republics of the USSR are explored. The reasons for the formation of authoritarian and autocratic regimes in most countries of the post-Soviet space are described. The optimal strategy of actions in the conditions of the transformation of the post-Soviet space is defined. Practical recommendations to state authorities regarding the adaptation of the foreign experience in overcoming the totalitarian legacy of the USSR to the needs of Ukraine are provided.
