Within this project the following problems were under research: 1) European principles of language policy and language situation in Ukraine, 2) sociolinguistic vitality of the less widespread local languages in Ukraine, 3) sociolinguistic parameters of language behavior of the representativer of ethnolinguistic communities, 4) the phenomenon of grammatical interference in the Crimean Tartar language, 5) the ecology of language in the multilingual environment in Ukraine, 6) specific features of the linguistic landscape in Ukraine, 7) specific features and stylistic peculiarities of the Ukrainian speech of the Russian-Ukrainian bilinguals, 8) sociolinguistic peculiarities of bilingualism in the Hungarian, Romanian and Polish ethnolinguistic communities, 9) interlingual variability of sociolinguistic terminology pertaining to interlingual relations. Within the research project also a variety of linguistic papers were reviewed, postgaraduate and doctoral research was done under the supervision of the Department and a number expert examination opinions commissioned by a variety of public institutions and government offices were conducted. The research results are highly innovative and open new possibilities in resolving numerous problems of language planning and language policy in Ukraine. The results can be used in compiling of the specialized manuals and academic courses in social linguistics. The published results will influence the sociolinguistic research in Ukraine and introduce into the domestic linguistic usage a number of categories unfamiliar to the broad linguistic readership, like ecology of language, language community rights, language attitudes, linguistic vitality, linguistic landscape etc. Over the research project term as many as 38 papers were published (23 d. a. altogether), including 6 paper abroad (3,7 d. a.) in Krakow, Munich, Ankara, Barcelona, Preshov). Numerous presentations covering the problems that were under research were made in more than 50 international and domestic conferences including the conferences outside Ukraine (Krakow, Vienna, Barcelona, Bilejik, Turkey, Svidinik, Slovakia).
