The aim: to assess the cytogenetic effects in lymphocytes of cancer patients following radiation treatment, depending on the energy of radiation dose and tumor localization, in order to improve biodosimetry in radiation therapy. Research methods and techniques: cytogenetic analysis of human blood cultured lymphocytes, statistical methods of data processing, microscope Axioskop, Micros MC300X and Olympus microscopes. Theoretical and practical results: the different character of chromosomal and chromatid type aberrations accumulation in groups of patients depending on tumor localizations and type of exposure was found. The increase of the level of chromosome type aberrations from the beginning to the end of treatment in all groups of patients was demonstrated, its pace was different depending on tumor localization. The dose-dependent character of the accumulation of chromosome exchange due to the test-irradiation of patients' lymphocytes was found. According to in vivo and in vitro data the absence of more genotoxic effects on lymphocytes of patients during irradiation on linear accelerator compared with ROCUS-AM was shown. Novelty: the yield and range of cytogenetic damage in lymphocytes of patients with uterine cancer, lung cancer, head and neck cancer before and during radiation therapy on ROCUS-AM and on linear accelerator were the first demonstrated within one study. The effectiveness of implementation: the implementation of developed methodological approach of cytogenetic investigation enhances the efficiency of early detection of radiation incidents in radiation therapy.
