It was found that the content of metal components in single-layer and multilayer coatings corresponds to the composition of the cathode, and the content of nitrogen with the increasing period increases from 30 to 42 at.%. Due to the high hardness, the single-layer coatings have a high abrasion resistance. The influence of pulse frequency and duty rate on the growth kinetics, structure and other characteristics of diamond coatings during synthesis from a gas phase of different composition on a zero-potential substrate is investigated. The deposition parameters of polycrystalline diamond film have been optimized. In the framework of the non-local thermally elastic peak model of low energy ion, the growth rate and the internal stress in the TiN coating deposited on the surface of a rotating cylindrical sample were theoretically investigated. Formulas for self-stresses for modes of constant and impulse potentials are obtained. The processes of steel samples nitriding in the two-stage vacuum-arc discharge in nitrogen atmosphere were investigated. Bombardment of the surface of the samples by titanium ions leads to the formation of a surface barrier layer based on TiNx, which decreasing the penetration of nitrogen into the metal. For the molybdenum ions, does not occur such barrier and the nitriding depth is higher by 30 %. The effect of Cr-coating on the mechanical properties of Zr1Nb fuel rod at longitudinal and transverse directions at 20 and 350 °C was investigated. Deposition of Cr-coating on the samples leads to a certain increase in the mechanical properties in the transverse and a decrease in the longitudinal directions at room temperature, but does not change properties in both directions at 350 °C.
