The purpose of the work is to substantiate the theoretical aspects of biogas production from crops and waste of crop and livestock in the energy supply system of rural areas. Research methods - the theoretical and methodological basis of the study is a systematic approach, as well as the fundamental provisions of socio-economic, sustainable development and regional economy, legislative and regulatory activities, which allowed to comprehensively consider aspects of biogas production. The objectives of the study were solved using a number of general scientific and specific methods and approaches, including: abstract-logical, including analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, system analysis, economic-statistical, SWOT-analysis, graphical and logical generalization. Today the world has considerable experience in the use of agricultural waste for energy purposes. Mankind has a real prospect of gradually replacing fossil fuels with biofuels made from agrobiomass in transport, industry and the utilities sector. More and more countries are setting up biofuel production on an industrial scale and developing national bioenergy development programs at the state level. Unfortunately, the pace of development of bioenergy in Ukraine lags far behind world indicators.
