The subject of the study: energy, environmental and fuel efficiency indicators of engines and vehicles when improving engine systems and applying methods of motor fuels rational use. The purpose of the study: analysis of directions for improving fuel economy and environmental performance of vehicular engines of various purposes by improving power and regulation systems for operation with conventional and alternative fuels. The first chapter deals with the analysis of ways to improve the environmental performance of spark ignition engines due to the use of alcohol mixtures additives to conventional gasoline. In the second chapter research is presented on the use of hydrogen-containing gas additive to improve spark-ignition internal combustion engine performance operating on liquefied petroleum gas. The third chapter presents the results of theoretical and experimental studies of spark-ignition engine fuel economy when adjusting its energy indicators using a combined method and different ways of shutting off cylinders group. In the fourth chapter, the place of biogas as a raw material and motor fuel in the decarbonization of energy industry and transport of Ukraine is substantiated. Biomethane is legislated as alternative gas fuel similar to natural gas. In the post-war period, it is necessary to start producing biomethane on industrial scale in Ukraine and to use the natural gas infrastructure.
