P. Semenenko Institute of geochemistry, mineralogy and ore formation popup.description2  The developed geopolymeric binders based on the slag of metallurgical plants and destructured clays for cementing hazardous waste into geopolymer matrices are suitable for further burial and storage. The physico-chemical properties of raw materials for geopolymer binders were studied, the preparation of geopolymer components and waste imitations for cementing was carried out, test samples were made and their qualities (porosity, compressive strength) were evaluated. Mechanisms of structure formation in geopolymers, peculiarities of preparation of geopolymer components and objects for cementing were considered, experimental samples were made and their evaluation was carried out. It has been established that the physical and chemical properties of the raw material may vary depending on the supplier, which is why measures are needed to improve its quality - selection of necessary fractions, extraction of underfire and aluminosilicate microspheres, etc. It is shown that before cementing, the objects must also undergo preparation: conversion of cationites to ash, adsorption of liquid hydrocarbons by solid adsorbents, etc. Based on the studied raw materials, the geopolymer matrix samples produced had high strength (more than 30 MPa) and low porosity < 1%. Predictive assumptions regarding the development of the research object - geopolymer binders of hazardous waste have significant advantages over Portland cements used for this purpose. This is confirmed by the consistent accumulation of experimental results. Further research will reveal the most promising components and methods of their activation for reliable immobilization of hazardous waste.
