Object of research: the historical center of Belz, the protected area "Middle Town", the territory of the State Historical-Cultural Reserve in Belz. Research methods: archival, bibliographic, and cartographic study of the territory; surface survey of the territory; descriptive, graphic, and photographic recording of all archaeological discoveries; classification of the discovered movable archaeological material and determination of its cultural and chronological affiliation; georeferencing of all archaeological discoveries and marking their locations on the city plan. As a result of preliminary archaeological research, two pits with a total area of 12 square meters were laid on the territory of the primary school. The research area is located on the market square, which dates back to the late 14th century. The buildings of this period were predominantly wooden. In the front part of the site there was a house, first wooden and then stone, and behind it was a courtyard and a number of buildings necessary for everyday life. The first pit revealed and examined brick walls that belonged to the main house. The nature of the walls indicated several reconstructions. In the second pit, a fragment of the rear part of the site with an eighteenth-century object was recorded. Two wooden floorboards of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries were also found. The arrangement of the beams indicated that the direction of movement was from south to north, i.e. from the market square. A similar situation was recorded in the city during the study of the rabbis' palace. It is not known whether there could have been a passage in the dense market buildings is unknown.
