The purpose of the research is to develop practical methods for preventing the development of erosion processes during mountain logging Research method - analytical and field studies of the location and current state of primary timber transportation routes, applied methods of timber skidding, organizational and technological aspects and requirements of regulatory documents related to this process, analysis and processing of data using mathematical statistics. An analytical review was prepared on the issues of damage to the soil surface during logging operations, the occurrence of erosion processes on primary timber transportation routes, the impact of timber skidding on sediment accumulation, pollution of forest streams and physical and chemical properties of soils, methods for determining erosion and monitoring its condition, as well as ways to prevent erosion processes during mountain logging. A program and methodological note for the implementation of research for the entire period of the topic development was drawn up. The organizational and technical aspects of logging were studied on the basis of maps of the technological process of logging areas development used by forest enterprises. Using geographic information systems (hereinafter referred to as GIS) and modern methods of remote sensing, the peculiarities of the location of skid trails on mountain slopes in different natural and production conditions were investigated.
