The characteristic values of hydrogen concentration in the bulk of metal, which caused the significant changes of strain and fracture behaviour, were determined. These values can be recommended as basic parameters for assessment of strength and fracture of materials and structures in hydrogen-contained environments. On this ground the engineering assessments of safe operation of pipelines with crack-like defects in hydrogen-contained environments of different composition were made. In particular, the effect of hydrogen concentration in metal on strength and serviceability of pipeline was shown.
