 The object of the study is oral and written texts of different types of discourse: popular science discourse, political discourse, academic and business discourse, business Internet-discourse in English and their translations (written and oral) into Ukrainian. The objective of the study was to determine the range of variability of typologically common strategies and tactics of translation of different types of discourse. The research methods are based on the general foundations of the complex analysis using general scientific (abstraction, generalization, formalization) and empirical-theoretical methods (analysis, synthesis, idealization). The defined criteria can be applied in practice when translating different types of texts, carried out using different types of translation strategies as well as when mastering translation studies disciplines. The novelty of the study is that for the first time in the Ukrainian translation studies the peculiarities of translation of different types of English discourse into unrelated Ukrainian and Russian languages from the standpoint of communicative-functional approach in terms of defining the leading strategy and tactics taking into account the specifics of the communicative situation have been proved; for the first time in the domestic translation studies an attempt was made to determine distinctive tactical and strategic parameters when translating texts of institutional and existential discourses within the language pair "Ukrainian → English"; a comparison of the means of actualization of translation strategies and tactics in the studied types of discourse is carried out in order to analyze their typologically common and specific characteristics. In addition, the scientific novelty of the obtained results is the development of criteria for assessing the quality of translation, taking into account the purpose of translation.
