Foreign language professional competence can be defined as an integrative personal-professional education, which is realized in the psychological and technical-operational readiness of a person to perform successful, productive and effective professional activities using foreign language in a foreign culture and provides effective interaction with the environment. In general, the composition of foreign language professional competence can be presented in a set of components such as competences of linguistic, sociolinguistic and pragmatic levels. The paper will present the following areas: 1) specific features of the formation of linguistic (linguistic) competence, which provides a system of knowledge, skills and abilities to carry out foreign language communication in typical situations of educational, labor and cultural spheres of communication; 2) features of formation of cross-cultural competence in foreign students, which provides for the establishment of communication both at the level of linguistic understanding and at the level of social, cultural, geopolitical context.
