Registration Date 29-09-2023 Organization Institute of History of Ukraine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description1 The aim of the research is to study the construction and transmission of the memory of the Rus’ history in the sources of the 12th – 15th centuries, the ties and redactions of historical texts in Eastern Europe in the 12th – 15th centuries, as well as the use of history as a resource for legitimising the secular and ecclesiastical elite of the Ruthenian lands in the Middle Ages and Early Modern period. The objectives of the work are: to reveal the processes of preservation and modification of the memory of Kyivan Rus on the example of texts of various nature of the 13th – 15th centuries; to study the genealogical (patronymics, clan names, genealogical remarks) and territorial (names of cities, localities, ethnonyms or patronymics) designations of representatives of the princely elite and their possessions; to analyse genealogical evidence about a number of Ruthenian and Lithuanian princely families of the 13th – 15th centuries; to study the history of reading and commenting on the famous chronicle text about Volodymyr's baptism, as well as its influence on the creation of historical memory about the prince; to consider views on sole power in texts of different genres and geographical origin of the late 15th – early 16th centuries. The project will include comparative material from Central and even Western European sources, as well as trace the genetic links between the cultural phenomena of Rus, Byzantium, and Central and Western Europe. The proposed project not only fills in the gaps in knowledge about Ukraine's medieval past, but also deepens the integration of Ukrainian historiography with world medieval studies. The social significance of the project is to reveal and enrich the picture of the creation of historical memory about the medieval period of Rus in the Ukrainian tradition. popup.nrat_date 2024-12-09 Close
