Registration Date 27-06-2025 Organization Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of NAS of Ukraine popup.description1 The aim of this project is to characterize gene expression in the human placenta during the physiological course of pregnancy and under conditions of complications such as preeclampsia (PE) and fetal growth restriction (FGR), in which placental dysfunction plays a key role. The object of the study will be the human placenta under both physiological pregnancy conditions and pregnancies complicated by preeclampsia and intrauterine growth restriction (FGR). The subject of the study will be the placental transcriptome, specifically the chorion and amnion, i.e., the fetal components of the placenta, as well as the decidual tissue, which constitutes the maternal part of the placenta. Achieving the project’s goal will involve a wide range of methodological approaches. The project is based on two main approaches: Secondary analysis of data available in open-access sources and RNA sequencing of clinical sample material. An integrative analysis will be applied to both data sets, followed by the identification of differentially expressed genes. These genes will then be further examined using a range of existing bioinformatics tools. A key feature of the project lies in its foundational ideas: Integration of raw data from various studies; Comparative analysis of data from different components of the maternal-placental complex within the same woman; Comparison of molecular mechanisms between the two types of pregnancy complications. The expected results are anticipated to provide fundamentally new insights into the pathogenesis of pregnancy complications under study, which is significant for both medicine and molecular biology. The application and development of cutting-edge molecular biology and bioinformatics methods during the course of this work will contribute to the advancement of systems biology and personalized medicine for pregnant women in Ukraine. popup.nrat_date 2025-06-27 Close
