Registration Date 07-07-2025 Organization Institute of Philosophy the H.Skovoroda National Ukrainian Academy of sciences popup.description1 The purpose of the study is to undertake a systematic comparative analysis of the concepts of violence and nonviolence in the major Eastern religious-philosophical traditions: Indian, Buddhist, Chinese, Islamic (Sufi), Jewish (Hasidic, Enlightenment) and Neo-Vedantic, and to deepen the understanding of the relationship between philosophical concepts and practices of nonviolence in historical, religious and socio-political contexts. Thus, the study aims to identify the underlying ideological foundations and mechanisms of legitimation or denial of violence in these traditions, as well as to understand the ways in which nonviolence appears not only as an ethical norm, but also as a form of spiritual self-improvement, social action and philosophical criticism. In order to achieve this goal, we will conduct a historico-philosophical reconstruction and analysis of important concepts and religious narratives that define attitudes towards power, violence, conflict and reconciliation in the context of Eastern thought. The study will take into account the influence of religious anthropology, ideas about the transcendent, corporeality, nature and social order on the formation of ideas of nonviolence. popup.nrat_date 2025-07-07 Close
