New high-pressure phase, cubic BC2N, has been synthesized at pressures above 18 GPa and a temperature of about 2200 K. The lattice parameter of c-BC2N is 3.642(2) A, which is larger than those values of diamond and cBN, and its hardness is 1.3 times higher than that of cubic boron nitride which indicates that this phase is only slightly less hard than diamond.
