Podgorny's Institute of Mechanical Engeneering Problems of the National Academy of Science of Ukraine popup.description2 A comparative cost-effectiveness study in the methods for production of hydrogen and electric power, and of non-conventional methods of working coal seams under especially complex mining and geological conditions has shown that the most promising are power installations of two types: with gasification of coal and elecrolysis of coal sludge. Thereat, the first ones are effective only if the elektric power and heat consumers are located nearby the TPP, and the latter ones are effective if the consumers are located relatively far away from the plant. A theoretical model of process and a preliminary design of a bench for coal sludge electrolysis at an increased temperature and under excessive pressure has been drawn up. A calculation of cost-effectiveness indicators based on the year 2002 prices has been carried out. A high pressure bench has been made and tested, wherein coal sludge is electrolysed at the temperatures of 200 to 350C. It has been confirmed that the reaction runs with generation of hydrogen and carbon dioxide readily flushed out of the gas mixture with alkali solutions. Practical recommendations on applying the process of electrochemical productions of hydrogen have been drawn up.
