Objective of research- improvement of the process of titanium tetrachloride purification, construction and development of a large laboratory unit for continuous production of reagent for titanium tetrachloride purification, excluding the application of aluminium for the preparation of LTC pulp. Investigation methods and equipment - chemical and spectrum analyses, material balance, gravimetrical and electrical measurements, laboratory equipment for the production of lower titanium chlorides and titanium tetrachloride purification. As the result of laboratory studies, a continuous process has been developed for the production of the pulp of lower titanium chlorides from titanium sponge screenings, which is able to remove vanadium impurities from commercial-grade titanium tetrachloride to 0.0002% (mass). A large-scale laboratory unit has been constructed and mastered for realization of the above process. Experimental samples of high-quality LTC pulp have been obtained. Based on experimental and calculated data, practicability and advisability has been demonstrated of the application of titanium sponge screenings. In general, the process is distinguished by a higher level of safety and productivity with lower expenses and wastes formed.
