Potebnya Instytute of Linguistics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 During April 1999 - March 2004 Department of Romanic, Germanic, and Baltic Languages investigated interrelation of proper and common names in the history and modern state of Germanic, Romanic, Baltic and Slavic Languages. The research was carried in the following directions: 1) proper names as derivatives of common names and the reverse transition of the proper names into the common names; 2) determination of the oldest geographical terms structure being part of the Slavic countries hydronymy and toponymy; 3) research of the etnonyms and their transfer into the common names of Germanic, Romanic, Baltic and Slavic languages; 4) writing articles and papers for presentation at the international and All-Ukraine congresses and conferences. Within the fulfillment of the project 14 articles concerning the investigated problem were published, 12 of them in the foreign editions. The monograph "European Etnonymy and the problem of its appellativisation" was prepared for the press. Within the framework of theproject 30 papers were presented at the International and All-Ukraine forums and conferences. On the basis of the complex approach into research a number of etymologies were revised and some amendments were made to the already published parts of both the Etymological Dictionary of Slavic Languages (Protoslavic Lexical Fund) (Moscow) and the Etymological Dictionary of the Prussian Language (Vilnius).
