The main purpose of the Project is development of the optimal composition and the techology of obtaining the sorbtion-barrier materials from carbonate-content clay raw material for creating radioecologic barriers and preventing the radionuclide migration. During the work, there were conducted the investigations of the possibility of using the waste from production for modifying the carbonate-content clay raw material. As a result of the investigations , there has been conducted the analysis of the available information sources and there have been systematized the data about real sources of radioactive contamination in the object "Cover" and the adjoined territories. The data base for radioactive contamination has been created. There have been found the sources and analysed the composition of industrial waste - the raw material synthesis of sorbtion-barriermaterials. The chemistry of the interaction has been investigated and the technique for modifying the carbonate-content clays by heavy metal waste has been developed. The complex of theoretical investidations about the process of adsorbtion of ion multinuclear systems in clay grounds have been conducted. There have been investigated the processes and developed the techique for synthesis of ferrocyanide sorbents on the base of the clay raw material. The investigations of the double-layer structure in the presence and absence of the iron ferrocyanides and other matals have been made. Durring the work there has been made the synthesis of laboratory and experimental lots of sorption-barrier materials on the base of natural carbonate-content bentonite clay raw material modified by waste from production. As a result of the investigations, there have been developed the optimal composition of sorption-barrier materials defined their sorption parameters (distribution coefficients) and made tests in the real radioactive contamination zone. The schematic process flow diagram and process regulations for obtaining the sorption-barrier materials on the clay matrix have been developed. There have been conducted the theoretical investigations of the ion exchange mechanism of the sorption of Sr2+, Cs+ ions and calculated the coefficients of diffusion of high-valency ions at the interface radionuclide water solution - clay sorption material surface. The objects of the most probable use of sorption-barrier materials have been defined in the right-of-way zone in the Chornobyl atomic power station and their geographic information systems have been created. There has been estimated the efficiency of using the developed sorption-barrier materials for creating the engineering barriers to prevent radionuclide migration from the near surface places of burial of radioactive waste of the trench type, from the places of burial of highly active radioactive waste in the deep geologic formations, and also in the processes of radioactive wastedecontamination in static conditions.
