The objective of the investigation is the search and systematization of the literature which is various in content and form and includes essentially important information on the question of formation and development of the study of local lore in Sumy region in XIX - XX centuries. Definition of the contribution of some scientists into development of historical study of local lore, generalization of various information about investigation of the region in corresponding branches of science. Owing to the performed investigation basing on the typical tendencies 8 stages of development of historical study of local lore in Sumy region in XIX - XX centuries were determined. They are: 1) the end of the XVIII - the beginning of the XIX century; 2) the beginning of the XIX - the 70-80ies years of the XIX century; 3) the end of the XIX - till the 20ies years of the XX century; 4) 1917 - the end of the 30ies years of the XX century; 5) 1939 - 1953 years; 6) 1953 - 1964 years; 7) the middle of the 60ies years - the end of the 80ies years of the XX century; 8) 1989 - 2000 years. The work is innovative for the region. For the first time the attempt to discover the tendencies of development of study of local lore in concrete area. The present development will help in the future to perform historical and local lore investigations in a more systemic way. The realization of the defined objective of the project will promote the interest to historical past of Sumy region and activation of national and regional aspects of the content of historical courses. The staff of the research group consisted of 15 research workers and students.
