There are not functional alpha-4 subunits in abdominal ganglia neurons whereas in SCG it could be include in synaptic transmission. It was established that alpha-3 and alpha-7 subunits expressed in SCG neurons are included in different receptors. Functional heterogeneity of autonomic neurons became apparent not only in their electrophysiological and pharmacological properties but also in subunit composition of nACHRs, which could be important factor determining specificity in autonomic pathways.
