Aim of the study: to study iodine intake of women and children, character and adequacy of iodine prophylaxis.Methods and equipment: еpidemiological, instrumental, biochemical, statistical methods. Spectrophotometer “Ganway” 6.300, ultrasound diagnostic device “Contron”, linear transducer 7.5 mHz. Results and novelty: iodine intake has been studied in 5158 women and children from different regions of Ukraine. The median of urinary iodine excretion was 98.7 mcg/L, which suggests a mild degree of iodine deficiency among the population of Ukraine. The incidence of thyroid pathology concerns 2/3 of the children examined, which confirms the in presence of long-term iodine deficiency in the areas under study. Based on a correlation analysis, a scientific-clinical substantiation has been carried out, of optimum iodine content table salt, which makes up 15 to 30 ppm.
