Effectiveness of afterburner operational process, afterburner construction for afterburning turbofan engine. Purpose of investigation: - Development of procedure used in design of afterburner for afterburning turbofan engine; - Research of afterburner structural element characteristics on aero engine section and as integrated in a full-size engine. Investigation methods and equipment: - Mathematical modeling of airthermogasdynamic processes; - Experimental research of full-size afterburner integrated in engine and research of its section on specialized rigs; - Rigs for experimental research of afterburner operational process and characteristics. Theoretical and actual results: - Calculation procedure for afterburner key elements has been developed; - Combination of mathematical models of afterburner operational process in afterburning turbofan engine was developed which offered a possibility of design assessment as applied to flow structure and ignition abilities, combustion efficiency, serviceability of construction; - Tests of afterburner structural element characteristics executed on a section and as integrated in a full-size engine. Novelty and effectiveness of innovation: - Developed procedures, mathematical models, R&D results can be used while developing a modern afterburner prototype for afterburning turbofan engines featuring a bypass ratio of m=1-1.2; - Experimental tests have demonstrated a possibility of procedures developed for structural element calculations to be applied in afterburner designing and updating. Field of application: the results obtained can be applied both while designing and developing new afterburners for afterburning turbofan engines and updating those existing at SE Ivchenko-Progress.
