Tumors were registered in 95 cases and inflammatory diseases - in 80 cases. Hereditary origin of the disease was determined in 30 patients (17,1 %). Additionally, 103 persons with hereditary diseases of large bowel were revealed in the families of those patients, including probands. We proposed new, author's version of the classification of these diseases. DNA probes from peripheral blood lymphocytes were taken from 37 patients. Mutations of APC and STK11 genes were determined in the 67 % persons with syndromes of hereditary polyposis at the first in Ukraine. We proposed new approaches to laboratory diagnostic of large bowel diseases, which involved cytogenetic analyses of 165 biopsy material probes taken from tumors. At first in Ukraine we studied anti-neutrophil cytoplasmatic antibodies in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases and determined genetic heterogeneity of ulcerative colitis. We proved that DQA1*0301 allele of the II class of HLA histo-compatibility complex could be a marker of predisposition to the inflammatory bowel diseases development.
