Objective of the research: assessment of radioecological conditions and radiation contamination levels of biological objects within the terrestrial ecosystems coastwise the ChNPP cooling pond during the period continuing up to the pond possible drainage. The objective is to develop an appropriate database and establish test grounds for further assessments of the consequences that may arise following adoption of certain decisions related to the future fate of the cooling pond.Methods of the research: analysis of the data out of source publications and own experimental data, as well as observation results; sampling at test grounds, radiochemical and spectrometric analyses, computer processing of data. Results of the scientific and research activities: Three test grounds were established on the ChNPP cooling pond's dam. General ecological and radiation situation was described. Samples of environmental objects (water, bottom sediments, soil, plants, animals) were taken to assess content of 90Sr, 137Cs and sum of plutonium isotopes. 90Sr and 137Cs content in small bird organisms was determined.
