As a result of the study a relationship was shown between the apoptosis changes, relative telomere lengths, cellular immunity parameters and radiation-induced somatic mutations at persons exposed to ionizing radiation. The study of the relative telomere length in peripheral blood lymphocytes has demonstrated a dose-dependent decrease in groups of Chornobyl accident cleanup workers and personnel involved in works in dangerous labour conditions on Shelter object. A positive correlation dependency is shown between the lymphocyte apoptosis in Chornobyl cleanup workers of 1986-1987 and age. A decrease of the relative telomere length correlates with the increased apoptosis and some types of chromosome aberrations. At the late period after radiation exposure the correlation dependencies were demonstrated also with the parameters of the celluar immunity. The results of the study are implemented in the practical activities of the Institute of Clinical Radiaology and the Radiation registry department of the RCRM, as well as in the entry controlof the personnel, working at the object "Shelter".
