Paton Electric Welding Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 With an aim to find out rational technology of welding of low-alloyed steel joints of large thickness, a modeling numerical researches of influence of welding heat input, chemical composition of weld metal and parent metal, of hydrogen content in deposited metal and structure rigidity on probability of cold crack appearance were carried out. Requirements to properties of flux-cored wire and welding parameters which allow to avoid cold crack occurrence were determined. The expediency of use of flux-cored wire mechanized and automated arc welding of converter parts, welding of vertical butt joints with forced formation of weld in particular, was determined. Research and development of specialized flux-cored wire of PG-44-A3U type according to DSTU (GOST) 26271 for arc welding with forced weld formation were carried out. Technical specifications were developed. Experimental researches to determine rational technology to weld butt joints of low-alloyed steel plates from 30 to 100 mm thick, typical for a design of metallurgical equipment were conducted. Technical characteristics of welding process which allow to avoid a degradation of visco-plastic properties of weld metal and heat affected zone were determined due to higher productivity of flux-cored wire melting, more narrow fusion zone and more uniform distribution of heat input throughout the welded joint thickness. Mechanical properties of weld metal and welded joint were investigated at welding of 09G2, 09G2S and 10KhSND steels which are used at manufacturing of converters. Technical regulations for flux-cored arc welding of butt joints of thick metal (up to 100 mm are developed by results of the researches. Pilot welding with flux-cored wire was carried out at reconstruction and repair of metallurgical units (in particular, cases of converters) at "Dnieper metallurgical industrial complex named after F.E. Dzerzhinskij" Public corporation. It was found, that the use of the suggested technology of welding with flux-cored wire allows to increase productivity of welding works by 1,5...3 times if compared with manual arc welding with coated electrodes and to lower the expense of welding consumables. The use of the mechanized welding allows to lower residual stresses in welded structures and to increase their operational properties.
