Institutional aspect of the problem covers the rise and activity of the scientific historical establishments, organizations, spreading of editions which set up the grounds for historic scientific development. Comparative analysis of the prevailing theoretical and methodological principles of historic research in Ukraine as well as in Belarus reveals the level of their maturity and correspondence of historic science development to the world tendencies. The outstanding Ukrainian and Belarusian figures of the interwar time historians, their scientific heritage and destiny in the totalitarian society are in the focus of attention. The project reveals the importance and socio-political impact of the Ukrainian and Belarusian historical science within the boundaries of the former Soviet republics as well as abroad, in the emigrant community. The authors plan to research the dialogue between Ukrainian and Belarusian historians as a means of historic concept agreement and national self-identification. It is expected that special attention will be paid to the nation creative function of historical science in the above mentioned period and, in particular, to its influence on Ukrainians and Belarusians formation of national consciousness.
