A pilot lot of zirconium sponge was made based on the developed process. Specifications of initial materials and zirconium sponge to be produced based on developed process were studied and formulated, as well as specification of zirconium sponge preparation for melting. Some physical parameters and chemical analysis of zirconium tetrachloride and zirconium sponge were studied. The recommendations were issued for the developed technology testing in pilot-plant conditions and for setting-up in Ukraine the zirconium sponge plant to produce the sponge by magnesium-thermic reduction.
