Stages of development of folkloristics in Western Ukraine are studied. Topical tendencies of development of Ukrainian folklore studies and directions of scholarly researches of 1940-2000 are observed on the base of scientific works of distiguished Western-Ukrainian scholars such as F.Kolessa, A. Fisher, O.Rozdol's'kyy, S. Liudkevych, M.Skoryk, O. Dey, V. Hoshovs'kyy, T. Komarynets', H. Nud'ha, I. Deysiuk and others. Basic theoretical and special problems of Ukrainian folklore are researched. The authors of the theme edited two volumes of scientific works: Visnyk L'vivs'koho Universitetu (L'viv, 2010. Issue 43. 386 p.) that includes 40 articles and Visnyk L'vivs'koho Universitetu (L'viv, 2009. Issue 47. 277 p.) that includes materials of Kolessa readings and earlier unpublished F. Kolessa's work as well as "Teopfil' Komarynets': Biobibliographical guide" (col. M.Kryvenko; author of preface: V.Ivashkiv, O.Komarynets' ) (L'viv, 2008. 168 p.). The authors of the theme created electronic archive of Ukrainian folklore records (almost 5 000 positions). The authors of the project prepared the textbook "Ukrainian folklore" for publishing (almost 240 p.). The results of the theme are used in high school as well as in secondary school in special courses of Ukrainian folklore and literature, history of folklore and literary studies.
