The variability of CO2 assimilation intensity at optimum conditions amounted to about 34 % in the 4th leaf at the tillering and 54 % in the flag leaf at anthesis. At the conditions of moderate stress (the elevated temperature or soil drought) it rose to 165 % in the 4th leaf and to 298 % in the flag leaf. Under optimum and stress conditions the greatest photosynthetic activity was found in modern high-yielding varieties Favorytka, Volodarka and Smuhlyanka. High thermo-tolerance of photosynthesis was observed in varieties Odeska 51, Odeska 66 and Donetska 48.
