Vernadsky University popup.description2 The aim of the work - synthesis of mono-crystalline magneto-optic active media (epitaxial ferrite-garnet films) for reconfigurable atomic chips and thermo-magnetic recording. Main methods of investigations - magneto-optic, selective chemical and ion-beam etching, electron microscopy, energy-dispersive microanalysis, X-ray diffraction. Apparatus: magneto-polarimeter, scanning electron microscope equipped with energy dispersive spectrometer, polarizing microscope, interference microscope, double-channel spectrophotometer, X-ray diffractometer. By means of liquid phase epitaxy method experimental samples of high-coercive ferrite-garnet films for use in atomic traps (coercivity more than 6 kA/m, Curie temperature about 200 grad.C) and thermo-magnetic recording devices (coercivity more than 4,8 kA/m, Curie temperature 60-70 grad.C) have been synthesized and investigated. In particular, pronounced layered films manifested in redistribution of chemical composition along their crystallizing front and non-homogeneity of magnetic properties along their thickness were grown. The composition stratification can be used in multilayer atomic traps. The existence of a several localizing levels of trapped atoms in the same bias field was confirmed by the computer simulation. The principle possibility of independent (layer-by-layer) thermo-magnetic recording at two levels was demonstrated experimentally on the model of focused laser beam thermo-magnetic recording equipment. Using selective etching method the films morphology was investigated; non-uniform distribution of dislocations along the films thickness and its dependence on the value of film-substrate crystalline lattice mismatch was revealed. On this basis the conclusion about the existence of limits of thermo-magnetic recording space resolution, and, as a consequence, about degree of localizing atom clouds in magnetic traps.
