A purpose of the work was to deepen the methodology of the scalar diffraction theory for the creation of new methods of design of optical systems based on diffractive optics. The results of the work are an approximate equation of Fresnel diffraction, which is used in the design of optical systems based on diffraction theory; expressions which allow to determine the phase function of the lens, the field amplitude distribution in any plane of the optical system; method of frequency analysis of the diffraction limited optical systems, which allows you to determine the ratio of the coherent transfer function and optical transfer function and to establish a connection between them; diffraction methods for design diffractive lenses.
