The aim of the investigation was the extraction of a low molecular peptide fraction from tissues С. auratus and the study of its biological activity. Biochemical, physiological methods as well as cell cultivation were used in the investigation. It was ascertained that the peptide fraction (below 5 kDa) from tissues of cold-adapted С. auratus had a biological activity towards poikilothermic and homoiothermic animals; however the fraction did not affect functional properties of cells in vitro. For the first time biologically active substances that had no species specificity were extracted from tissues of cold-adapted fresh water fish, which lapse into cold dormancy. The results of investigation can be applied in pisciculture as well as in search for novel biologically active compounds.
