Aim - to create a complete picture of the physical processes determining the formation and behavior of the ionosphere in the diurnal, seasonal and solar cycles during low solar activity. Methods of research - ground-based radiophysical method of incoherent scattering (IS) radio waves, the statistical analysis of observations, semi-empirical modeling of physical processes in geospace. The results of observations of variations in the ionosphere in the period from 2007 to 2011 are demonstrated. Particular attention is given to the determination of ion composition of the topside ionosphere and vertical transport of ionospheric plasma. The analysis of measurement results to identify and explain the physical processes in the ionospheric plasma during the phase of low solar activity was carried out. The phenomena observed during severe ionospheric storms was analyzed. It was shown that mid-latitude ionosphere is characterized by a natural wave processes, existing almost always. Generalization of experimental data allowed for a further development of the ionospheric model over Central European region. Theoretical modeling of variations in the dynamic processes in geospace plasma, as well as the parameters that are not directly measured on the IS radar, was made.
