Karazin popup.description2 Object of the Research: radical manifestations of political activity in contemporary Ukraine and some societies of Eastern Europe. Subject of the Research: practices of political extremism in contemporary Ukraine and some societies of Eastern Europe. Goal of the Research: sociological study of the practices and factors that contribute to the emergence and spread of political extremism in Ukraine and comparison with the relevant processes in some societies of Eastern Europe. Methods of the Research: document and statistical analysis, monitoring of events, content-analysis, secondary data analysis of the cross-national comparative researches. Scientific Result of the Research: there was developed a conception, methodology of comparative research and variables for sociological measurement of political extremism in Ukrainian society and some societies of Eastern Europe; formulated conceptual bases of measurement of manifestations of political extremism through the prism of legal and illegal political practices; there were conceptualized main factors and dynamics of political extremism from the analysis of political practices of right-ing and left-wing organisations / movements and strategies of adaptation of radical ideologies in modern democratic societies; there was marked a segmentation of a radical environment through differentiation of extremist attitudes manifestations in Ukrainian society. Empirical Base of the Research: European Social Survey (2004/5, 2007, 2008/9), Social Monitoring by the Institute of Sociology National Academy of Science of Ukraine (1994-2008), INTAS research project (Ref. 04-79-7018) "Comparing Societal Integration of the Turkish and Related Minorities: Institutional Strategies of INTAS and CIS Countries" (2005-2007), NATO cooperation grant (Ref. SST.NUKR.CLG. 981080), results of the American sociological center PRC (Rew Research Center)"Pew Global Attitude Project". Data collected as a result of this research could be used for the state policy towards the prevention of the emergence and spread of political extremism. The results of the research have a great importance for scholars, representatives of state administration and self-government, mass media. The materials of this research could be used for enhancement of the University curriculum in such teaching courses as Theories of Social Stratification, Inequalities in Contemporary Societies, Social Changes in Contemporary World, Social Policy in Europe, Sociology of Daily life and Political Conflicts, Class, Gender, Ethnos in Political Behavior etc. as well as in the further research of the problems of social inequalities, stratification, social tension, social conflicts and social justice.
