A general theory of the formation of the spatial characteristics of vortex beams in the process of diffraction by the GE with EPS is developed. The effects of misalignments and deformations of the GE and the input beam on the OV formation are analyzed, and on this basis, the principles of generation of vortex beams with a predictable and controllable parameters are developed. It is established that the beams obtained by the diffraction of a Gaussian beam in the GE with EPS belong to a class of hypergeometric or Kummer beams. In case of miselignment, the diffracted beam is deformed; with subsequent propagation, the characteristic points of its transverse profile move along trajectories close to linear, and the beam as a whole rotates around the nominal propagation axis in accordance with the internal energy circulation. At large diffraction angles. simultaneously with the formation of the OV, the output beam experiemces the uniaxial deformation with appropriate symmetry breakdown. If the conditions correspond to generation of multicharge OV, at large angles of diffraction an ordered array of secondary single-charged OV is formed instead. The dislocation and morphology of secondary OVs are analyzed. The results obtained help to improve the conditions and to optimization of the OV-beams generation, which contributes to creation of vortex beams with desired properties. The results of the work will be useful in communications technology, in the study of microobjects, in the physico-chemical micro-and nanotechnology.
