Registration Date 17-01-2013 Organization Institute of Surface Chemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine popup.description2 During the reporting period, the methods of encapsulating of gold (Au), silver (Ag) and copper (Cu) nanoparticles (NPs) by the amino acid tryptophan (Trp) in solution and on the surface of dispersed silica (SiO2), as well as stabilizing the copper nanoparticles which are inclined to oxidation by combination with iodine ions, polymer or colloidal silica have been developed. The Giant Raman Scattering of Trp molecules in the system Trp/Au/SiO2 and Trp/Cu/SiO2 has been found. The mechanism of action of silver NP on the cell microbe C. albicans using a laser scanning confocal microscope using a fluorescent label has been investigated. The main indicators of high antimicrobial activity of metal NPs for a long time are the small size of NPs and clearly defined concentration of selected stabilizers. It is shown that the first step to destroy microorganisms is destruction of cell membranes and penetration of the silver NPs inside the microbe. These results make it possible to recommend the use of silver NPs as an environmentally safe means in medicine, biology, food industry (packaging materials, packaging) and other applications that require the presence of antimicrobial properties.
