Kholodny Institute of Botany NASU popup.description2 Investigation of strains of anaerobic photosynthetic purple bacteria of the genus Rhodobacter, isolated from natural sources using Winogradsky columns, have been continued. A biomass of new strains of Rhodobacter, capable of producing hydrogen in photo heterotrophic mode at high speeds, has accumulated by repeated passages. Assimilation of methanol and formate has occurred anaerobically only in the presence of bicarbonate and related to their oxidation to CO2 and using the latest in photosynthesis. The influence of the intensity and spectral composition of light on the rate of hydrogen evolution in unicellular micro-algae and Rhodobacter has been studied using colored LEDs, which were installed in the photobioreactor as a flexible LED product. During the study of the processes of energy conversion in the cells of facultative anaerobic culture of unicellular microalgae Euglena gracilis, it was found that photoevolution of H2 in E. gracilis is stimulated by red light in the presence of certain exogenously added cofactors. The features of the photosynthetic energy transformation in E. gracilis in anoxia showed that E. gracilis is an efficient producer of photo hydrogen and its yield is stimulated by the activation of chloroplast respiration and depends on the spectral composition of light .
